The Great Himalayan National Park –the Great Himalayan National Park spread across Spiti Valley, Tirthan Valley, Sainj Valley and Jiva Nal Valley in the Kullu region is a natural wonder. Spread across an area of 754 sq km and ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 m in altitude, it is one of the best National Parks in India.

Trekking and Hiking are the only ways of exploring this National Park and it is a treat to explore it that way. It has even been declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Trips to the National Park can last anything between 2 to 8 days. Entry to this protected area has to be through a permit from the Director's Headquarter at Shamshi or from the range officers stationed at Sairopa, Banjar and Sainj.

The best times to visit the Park are between April to June or September and October. It’s better to avoid the rains and the snowfall in the monsoons and the winter. It really is a spectacular part of nature that really deserves to be witnessed.

Pin Valley National Park– The Pin Valley National Park is a part of the Great Himalayan National Park Conservational Area and is located at Lahaul in the Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 249 km from Manali and is one of the prime destinations from Manali.

Kalatop Khajjiar Wildlife Sanctuary –ocated at a distance of 10 kms from Dalhousie and in the Chamba district of Himchal Pradesh, the Kalamtop Khajjiar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the catchment areas of river Ravi. The altitude of the park varies from 3,910 feet to 9,134 feet.

Spread across an area of 1962 hectares, the thick forests of Deodar and knitted with numerous streams leading to the river Ravi. There are also Oak trees and Blue Pine. The sanctuary boasts of a wide variety of wildlife like the Leopard, Bear, Deer, Squirrel, Barking Goral, Serow, Langur, Jackal and Himalayan Black Marten and numerous birds like the Eurasian Jay, Chestnut Billed rock thrush and white winged black bird.

Such places are best experienced through trekking and hiking, really soaking in the vibe of the place. Wondering through these dense forests, seeing the clouds build up covering the mountains, breathing in the air and experiencing nature in the most natural way is really special and magical.

The best times to visit Kalatop Khajjiar Wildlife Sanctuary are between March to May and September to November. It should not take you more than a day to explore the sanctuary but taking two days out to really soak in nature’s wonder is absolutely worth it.
